Intermediate Level Training Series

AppWorks is offering a 6-part training series for intermediate-level FileMaker users looking to improve upon their development skills. These classes will be offered in January and February of 2020, and can be taken as individual classes or as an entire series (for a discounted price).

Classes will be taught by Matt Navarre, an expert FileMaker developer with 30+ years of experience. Classes will feature many hands-on activities as well as working in small groups in order to improve concept retention. Students will work on a sample file, and are encouraged to bring their own project/solution if they have one.

Classes will be taught in FileMaker Pro Advanced 18, which can be provided if needed. Topics covered in class will include:

Class 1 – January 9th, 2020

Button Bars – Layout calculation objects
Themes, Styles and Consistency in design
Scripting – Calling Subscripts, and keeping things contained and simple

Class 2 – January 16th, 2020

Relational Design – Primary and Foreign Keys & Importance of UUID
Text, Number & Date Fields – When to use each type
Card Windows – Centralize common tasks

Class 3 – January 23rd, 2020

Master/Detail & Relationship Review
Scripting – Looping Scripts
Importing & Exporting Data

Class 4 – January 30th, 2020

Layout Design – Data Entry
Integrating free systems – Calendar
Scripting – Iteration, and building complexity over time

Class 5 – February 6th, 2020

Layout Parts – List
JSON – Handling multiple parameters

Classes will be taught at AppWorks‘ office, and the pace of the classes will be dictated in part by the skill level of the students. Any training questions can be sent to eleanor@app.works.
