Automatically Perform Script on Server

Automatically Perform Script on Server
By David Weiner

The ability of FileMaker Pro 13 and 14 to perform a script on the server instead of locally on the client’s machine is a huge potential boon for productivity. Tasks for which a user might otherwise have to wait to complete can be accomplished in the background without holding them up. Performing certain scripted tasks on the server is also much, much faster in many cases. So, it’s nice to perform a script on the server whenever you can.

Monthly FileMaker Meetup – June 2015

FMMeetupPDX

The FileMaker Portland Meetup Group met on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Our thanks goes out to our co-hosts, Gerald Chang, of Eight2 and Joey Grimaldi, of ODI Technologies, as well as all the fine folks who took the time to hang out with us and geek out.

One of the highlights of the meeting included a presentation by Chris Irvine. His presentation on glyphs and icons within FileMaker 14 were both fascinating and enlightening. He has a detailed post about it here. It’s well worth the read – we highly recommend it!

Our next FileMaker Portland Meetup is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, 2015. We hope to see all of you there!

By David Weiner

Realizing that we were more than likely going to need to do this again, we thought it was time to find a module of some sort that we could easily plug in as needed. Our aim was to have a simple way to take a group of addresses and create a map using the Google API in FileMaker, and that was all. Nothing fancy – just simple, elegant, and (ideally) ready-to-go out of the box.
